Loading...- Course DescriptionThis course provides an overview of fundamental topics in environmental microbiology and also addresses the role of microorganisms from the view of public health and life quality by discussing the environmental health-related special issues. This course consists of lecture and student practice on issues of environmental microbiology via oral presentation in class and writing reports. Students are expected to enhance their knowledge on environmental microbiology and understand the relationship among microorganism, human and environment. Students may possess the abilities to describe and assess the key elements associated with microbial survival and growth and their impacts on public health after completing this course.
- Course ObjectiveAfter completing this course, the students are expected to have the ability to: A. Describe the key concepts of environmental and occupational health sciences. (EOHS MS-A) B. Identify information to address issues on environmental and occupational health sciences. (EOHS MS-B)
- Course RequirementStudents will need to take two examinations, read the required readings, participate in class discussion, make an oral presentation and submit a term paper by the due date.

Oral: 20%; Written: 20% Students are required to present and write a 5-page report on a specific issue associated with environmental microbiology mainly within the scope of public health. The take-home-message should be presented in the format of 3-5 questions in oral presentation. The written report should include the following sections: (1) Introduction (background information and importance in environment, public or animal health), (2) Main content (questions to be answered, methodology used, significant findings and discussion) (3) Conclusion and recommendation, (4) What have learned from the practice, (5) Reference
