載入中- 課程概述This course provides a comprehensive overview of the long-term care continuum, exploring both macro perspectives—including health policy, organization, financing, and delivery—and the micro perspective of older adults' experiences. It introduces a framework for studying the long-term care continuum, which is used to identify both challenges and opportunities related to interventions. The course aims to analyze several key areas: the demographics of aging, the disablement process, the role of financing, the evolving marketplace, the essential components of the long-term care continuum, and comparisons of international long- term care systems among Taiwan and selected countries. Additionally, the course will address the emerging role of AI and robotic assistance in aging and long-term care. It will explore how these technologies can support the aging population by enhancing care delivery, improving quality of life, and maintaining independence, thereby transforming the landscape of long-term care. Ethical issues related to AI will also be explored. Despite the challenges posed by the aging crisis, this course underscores that successful aging and quality of care are achievable. It will also cover special topics such as continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs), palliative care, and other services designed to meet the unique needs of older adults.
- 課程目標Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to • Understand basic concepts related to long-term care services, insurance policies and programs, and key factors contributing to long-term care costs. • Critique conceptual frameworks of the long-term care service continuum. • Analyze the impact of population dynamics, family structure change, and social transformation of long-term care services. • Discuss the major physical, mental, and psychosocial changes and health problems that accompany aging and their applicability to long-term care programs. • Analyze palliative and end-of-life care options and the choices surrounding advance directives. • Discuss the trends affecting the long-term care system today that are likely to shape the future of long-term care • Synthesize AI/robotics application and its impact on older adults and long- term care system.
