載入中- 課程概述This course aims to provide students with fundamental epidemiologic concepts and study design, which will further be articulated with a broad overview of basic biostatistical methods to be used in public health. Students will be trained to read scientific literature to critically evaluate study designs and methods of data analysis. Students are expected to develop the ability of using appropriate study design and epidemiology measurements in conjunction with quantitative approaches in evidence-based public health. This is an asynchronous online learning course which contains three-hour online course, in the online system NTU COOL, and two- to six-hour in-class discussion (office hour) monthly. For the epidemiology part, students will be introduced to key concepts and principles of epidemiology, including various study designs, bias, confounding, and effect modification. For the biostatistics part, this is a fundamental course of basic biostatistics. We will focus on the statistical methodology and data analysis. The course will start with descriptive statistics. Next, students will learn the concepts and definitions of probability and distributions, as well as applications in statistics and in real world. Then, statistical inferences including estimation and hypothesis testing will be introduced. In the office hour, students can ask questions and clarify concepts of online video, and they will learn how to perform statistical analysis through R/EXCEL.
- 課程目標The objective of this course is to equip the students of MPH with knowledge and theory of biostatistics and epidemiology. After taking this course, students will be able to understand and apply key concepts of epidemiology in research to critically appraise epidemiological evidence. Furthermore, they will learn the basic statistics concepts and perform statistical analysis through R/EXCEL correctly.

20% Online course and class participation
Students will watch two-hour video per week. Record of browsing history in NTU COOL will be considered for grading. Students are required to attend the face-to-face office hours and to participate in the in-class discussions to critically appraise epidemiological evidence and practice data analysis through EXCEL. The performance of each student will be assessed by the instructors.
20% Homework
After class, students will need to do homework/quiz to ensure they understand the contents of online course.
30% Mid-term exam
Students are required to attend a two-hour mid-term exam.
30% Final exam
