This class introduces the natural diversity of Taiwan with invited experts sharing their field of specialization related to Taiwan’s flora, fauna and physical environment. We will discuss contemporary issues examining the relationship between nature and Taiwanese society including traditions, consumption, symbology, protection and management. (Waitlist Information: All students interested to take the course must attend the first class in person. We will conclude the waitlist and course add by the end of the first week so it is not possible to add the course from week 2 onwards)

• To give students (both Taiwanese and international) a broad overview of Taiwan’s natural environment and resources. • To provide a platform for students from various countries and backgrounds and encourage sharing of ideas and opinions related to the environment in a respectful and positive way.

• Attendance is graded and students are required to complete a pop quiz after every lecture. • All students are also required to attend the zoo trip (to choose from 2 dates arranged by NTU and Taipei Zoo usually on one Sat or Sun during the semester) • Students have to plan and undertake 1 field trip in Taiwan. A report has to be submitted after this trip and will be graded.
