  • 課程概述
This course focuses on the construction and communication of philosophical ideas and arguments in English. It has two main pillars. The first pillar comprises two sets of readings to be discussed in class. The readings cover figures in the history of philosophy (weeks 2-7) as well as recent philosophical perspectives on metaphor (weeks 9-15). The second pillar consists in practical training that culminates in the writing of a final essay. This training has several components: selecting a topic and gathering material (electronic library resources), reading (what and how to read), writing (argumentation and writing strategies).
  • 課程目標
After taking this course, students are expected to have gained the following: (1) An overall improved competence in communicating philosophical ideas in English (2) A deeper understanding of key philosophical figures and concepts (3) Experience with the various components involved in writing a philosophy essay.
  • 課程要求
Students are expected to read the materials before class and actively engage in discussions. The first pillar requires them to write one review (history of philosophy) and participate in a group presentation (metaphor theory). For the second pillar, students need to complete one bibliographic assignment, hand in a digest of their selected readings, and submit a final essay.
