  • Course Description
    The course explores the key elements of a successful national immunization program: vaccine R&D and manufacture, vaccine policy and funding, immunization recommendation and evaluation, vaccine purchasing and cold chain, first-line immunization practice and management of adverse events. All of these elements are essential and link with one another. By introducing domestic and international examples, site visit, case study, exercise and experience sharing, a whole picture of immunization in the real world of public health will be displayed for students.
  • Course Objective
    At the end of the course the students are expected to 1. Understand the role and contents of various disciplines in preventive medicine. (I) 2. Understand human right and ethical issues related to preventive medicine strategies and research. (K) 3. Understand key issues for vaccine policy and immunization practices.
  • Course Requirement
    This is an advanced course in vaccinology. With credits of “Vaccinology” (by Dr. Yi-Chin Fan), “Microbiology and Immunology”, or basic training of immunology is preferred but not required.

    (1) Students should apply their knowledge about the epidemiology of vaccine-preventable diseases, and weigh the strength and weakness of key elements of immunization in Taiwan to come to the conclusion. (2) The students should consider the benefits of all population, especially the vulnerable.
