  • Course Description
    This course (Seminar on Political and Economic Interaction Across Taiwan Strait) introduces the political and economic interaction between Mainland China and Taiwan since 1949. It covers a wide range of topics which can be divided into three parts. The first part deals with the economic interaction between Mainland China and Taiwan, including topics such as trade, investment, production network, and people mobility. The second part deals with the political foundation of Cross-Strait economic relation, including topics such as comparing capitalism across the Strait, Taiwan identity, Chinese nationalism, and political development in Hong Kong. The third part deals with the grand strategy adopted by either side of the Strait, including topics such as Mainland China’s Taiwan policy, Taiwan’s Mainland China policy, U.S. Cross-Strait policy, Taiwan’s international space, and the future of Cross-Strait relations.
  • Course Objective
    This course aims to provide students with basic knowledge on this subject and helps students develop analytical ability and policy insights on issues with regard to Cross-Strait relations. It is intended to train students shooting for theoretician or policy analyst in the field of Cross-Strait relations.
  • Course Requirement
    Registered students are required to participate in class discussion and case study presentation, as well as take final exam. For graduate students, there is one option to submit term paper instead of taking final exam.
