Primary prevention aims for health promotion (e.g., nutrition and exercise, etc.) and specific protection (e.g., vaccination, removing environmental risk factors, preventing occupational and accidental injury). Secondary prevention aims for early diagnosis and proper treatment (e.g., identification of pre-clinical cases, disease screening, and health checkups). Tertiary prevention aims to restrict disability (e.g., treatment to prevent disease worsening, complications, and development of secondary disease) and rehabilitation (e.g., psychological, physiologi-cal, and occupational therapy and long-term care).
- Course ObjectiveStudents are expected to 1) Learn the theory and practice of preventive medicine based on three levels and five stages (FD13, FD14, FD31, FD41-43) 2) Understand essential strategies for health promotion and specific protection in primary prevention. (GD1-2, FD2, FD12-14, FD16, FD21-23, FD26, FD31-33, FD41-43, FD51-53, FD61, FD71, FD82, FD85, FC11-12, FC21-24, CC1, CC4, CC10, CC12) 3) Understand the benefit and limitations of disease screening and health checkup in secondary prevention. (GD1-2, FD2, FD12-14, FD16, FD21-23, FD26, FD31-33, FD41-43, FD51-53, FD61, FD71, FD82, FD85, FC11-12, FC21-24, CC1, CC4, CC10, CC12) 4) Recognize the role of restriction of disability and rehabilitation in tertiary prevention.
