Topics covered include features of academic writing, essay development, paraphrasing, summarizing, and oral presentation skills. Through in-class exercises, students will apply their knowledge to compose various study-related genres such as CVs, Resumes, Personal Statements, SOPs, and Cover Letters. Moreover, the course aims to equip students with teamwork skills and enhance their proficiency in delivering oral presentations within academic settings. Please note: This course is designed for sophomores and above; freshmen are not recommended to take it.
- Course ObjectiveBy the end of the course, students are expected to: 1. Evaluate and analyze a variety of texts for academic purposes. 2. Identify key features of academic writing and apply them in their own work. 3. Construct an effective academic profile and other related documents. 4. Develop teamwork and oral presentation skills needed for their academic careers.
- Course Requirement1. No more than three excused absences are permitted. 2. Active participation in class discussions is required. 3. No make-up exams will be allowed. 4. Late assignments will not be accepted. 5. No plagiarism. A grade of “0” may be earned for plagiarism or other forms of dishonesty.
